What decides how many RF microneedling sessions get scheduled

The question that comes up first before an RF microneedling course is how many appointments it will take. The answer is set at the assessment, not at the machine, and the neck and the face are quoted separately for reasons worth stating plainly.

The first question about RF microneedling is rarely the price. It is how many appointments it will take, and whether that number moves once the course has started.

I can answer both, but not from a brochure. The number is set at the assessment, before anything is booked, and it goes in writing at that point rather than after the first session.

How many sessions does a course usually run?

Most courses I schedule run three sessions. Some run four. Occasionally the answer at the assessment is that a course is not what I would book at all, and I say that instead.

What I will not do is quote a number over the phone. There is no figure that is true for everyone, and a number produced before I have looked at the area in person is a guess with a price attached to it.

Why is the number decided at the assessment rather than at the machine?

Because everything that changes the number is established in the room. The assessment covers the area itself, the medical history, the current medication list, and the next three months of the calendar. All four move the plan, and none of them can be read off a device.

Some of what comes up in that conversation stops the plan entirely. Recent isotretinoin, an active infection or an open lesion in the area, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and an implanted electronic device such as a pacemaker or defibrillator are all reasons I either defer the treatment or ask the person to speak with the physician managing it before anything is scheduled. Those are not rare conversations. They are a normal part of why the number gets settled in advance rather than mid-course.

Why are the neck and the face quoted separately?

Because they are separate treatments with separate appointment lengths, and combining them into one figure makes one of the two cost more than it should. Morpheus8 Burst on the neck is quoted on its own. The face is quoted by how much of it is being treated.

Both are standing figures, fixed at your consultation. The per-session figure does not change with how many sessions get scheduled, and it does not change with who is asking. I would rather publish two numbers that are correct than one number that has to be adjusted at the counter.

What does the interval between sessions look like on a calendar?

Generally four to six weeks between sessions, which means a three-session course starting in September generally finishes somewhere in November.

The interval is there so that I can look at the area, settled, before the next session is confirmed. Sometimes it goes ahead as planned. Sometimes the interval stretches around travel or a sun-heavy fortnight, and stretching it is a better outcome than keeping to a calendar for the calendar's sake.

South Florida makes that a scheduling question as much as a clinical one. Device work sits most comfortably in the summer months here, because the aftercare asks for real sun avoidance, and in most cases it is the year-round residents who can keep to it. From October the county fills up and the calendar tightens on everything.

When do I tell somebody not to book a course?

  • When the next several weeks contain a boat, a beach trip or a wedding somewhere sunnier. The aftercare window is the part people underestimate, not the appointment.
  • When somebody wants a single session to see how it goes. One session is not a shorter version of a course, and I would rather nothing started than a course left halfway.
  • When the concern being described is really about volume or contour. That is a different conversation, and the answer is sometimes a collagen stimulator such as Sculptra, and sometimes nothing this year.
  • When there is a mark or a lesion in the area that a dermatologist should look at first. That referral comes before anything I do, and it is not negotiable against a booking.

What is worth asking any practice before a course is booked?

Four questions, and they work anywhere, including here.

  • How many sessions, in writing, before the first one rather than after it.
  • What the whole course adds up to at the published per-session price.
  • What the interval is, and what happens if it has to move.
  • Who performs each session. Where that answer changes between visits, the plan tends to change with it.

The most useful thing to do with those answers is to put the entire course on the calendar at once, intervals included, before the first appointment happens. In my experience courses come apart on scheduling far more often than on anything clinical. How I decide what to recommend is a longer answer, but the scheduling half of it is genuinely this plain.

Questions people ask about this

Does the number of sessions change once a course has started?

In most cases it holds. At each interval visit I look at the area before the next session is confirmed, and if the plan should be shorter than what was quoted I say so and the remaining sessions are not booked. Stretching an interval is far more common than changing the count.

Why is the face quoted as a range rather than at a single number?

Because the face is not one uniform area and the appointment length changes with how much of it is being treated. The neck is a single figure because it is a single defined area.

Can the neck and the face be done in the same appointment?

Sometimes, and that is decided at the assessment rather than in advance. They stay priced separately either way, so nothing is buried inside a combined number.
