SkinPen, PRP and HydraFacial.

Three treatments that get talked about as if they are interchangeable. They are not, and the difference is mostly how deep they work and how long the effect lasts.

Skin

  • SkinPen microneedling
  • SkinPen with VAMP
  • SkinPen with PRPPRP is drawn from your own blood on the day.
  • HydraFacialThree tiers. Performed by Jolie Messinger, the aesthetician here.
  • Skinbetter Science · HydrinityRetail skincare.

Is the basic SkinPen the same device as the one with PRP?

Yes. Same device, same depths, same hands. What changes is what goes on the skin alongside it: VAMP, or platelet-rich plasma drawn from your own blood on the day. You are paying for the addition, not for a better machine, and I would rather you knew that than assumed the expensive one was a different treatment.

Which one should I have?

A HydraFacial is a good skin day and a good habit. It is not a treatment that changes skin structurally, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling it. Microneedling works deeper and is a course rather than a visit. If you only have budget for one thing this quarter, I will tell you which, and quite often it is the cheaper one.

How often?

HydraFacial monthly suits most people. Microneedling as a course of sessions spaced weeks apart, then left alone.

When I would say wait, or no

Every line below is a reason I would ask you to come back later or send you somewhere else. Worth reading before you book.

  • Anyone with an active breakout or infection in the area.
  • Anyone expecting one microneedling session to do the work of a course.
  • Anyone booking a HydraFacial expecting a structural change. That is the wrong treatment for that goal and I would rather move you.
  • Anyone on isotretinoin recently, until we have talked about timing.
“I had such a great Hydro Facial and LED Therapy with JOLIE MESSINGER. Jolie is so knowledgeable and really takes the time to explain your skin and how to care for it. I love that she shared helpful tips and personalized recommendations throughout the treatment. My skin felt amazing, refreshed, hydrated and glowing!”
