Home / Loose skin
Loose skin along the jaw, neck and body.
Three completely different things get called loose skin, and they do not lead to the same appointment. Sorting out which one you actually have is the entire job of a consultation.
The three things people mean
The skin itself has changed
The surface is thinner, drier, more crepey, and it creases in places it used to recover from. This tends to show up first on the neck, under the eyes and on the backs of the arms, and it usually has more to do with sun history than with age.
Volume has moved or gone
Nothing is loose. Support has been lost higher up and everything below it now reads as heavy. This is the one people most often self-diagnose wrongly, because the place it shows is not the place it started.
The structure underneath has descended
Deeper tissue has moved down, and the skin over it is simply following. Sometimes this reads as a jawline that used to be a line and is now a curve.
What to look at yourself, before you book anything
- Look at your face at rest and then moving. They are two different faces and only one shows up in photographs.
- Look in the same mirror, in the same light, at the same time of day. Most of what people read as a sudden change is a lighting change.
- Compare against a photograph from two or three years ago rather than against how you feel today.
- Notice whether the concern is worse at the end of the day. Some of it is fluid, and fluid is not a treatment problem.
Why I will not assess this from a photo
- The three causes above look nearly identical in a still image and behave completely differently.
- Skin thickness and how it recovers when moved cannot be seen in a photograph. It has to be felt.
- Photographs flatten exactly the depth information that decides the answer.
- Sending you an opinion from an image would be guessing, and a guess on this costs you real money.
What the appointment actually does
I look at your skin, your bone structure and how the tissue sits and moves, and I tell you which of the three above is driving what is bothering you. Sometimes the honest answer is that the right starting point is skin quality, and sometimes it is that nothing needs doing for a while, and sometimes it is that the person who should be looking at this is a surgeon rather than me. You get that answer in the room, along with what each route involves and what it costs, and you take it home to think about.
Where a device is the right answer, the two on my platform are Morpheus8 and QuantumRF. Both pages state plainly what each is cleared for and what it is not, which is worth reading before anyone, including me, recommends one to you.
When I would say wait, or no
Every line below is a reason I would ask you to come back later or send you somewhere else. Worth reading before you book.
- The concern only appeared in the last few weeks. That is more likely to be fluid, sleep or a skin barrier problem than anything structural.
- You are in the middle of losing a significant amount of weight. Your face and body are still changing and treating a moving target wastes your money. There is a point at which this becomes worth doing and I will tell you when.
- You want it handled before an event in the next few weeks. Everything on this page needs more runway than that.
- You cannot commit to staying out of the sun afterwards. In this part of Florida that is a real constraint and not a formality.
Can you tell me over Instagram whether I need this?
No, and I would be guessing if I tried. The three causes on this page look the same in a photograph and lead to different appointments. This one is worth being seen in person for.
Is this instead of a facelift?
They are different things and for some people the honest answer is surgery. If that is what I think when I look at you, I will say so and tell you who I would send my own family to.
How long before anything is visible?
Anything that works by building collagen works on the body's schedule rather than on yours, and that is months rather than days. If someone promises you a result on a deadline, be careful.
Do I have to decide at the appointment?
No. You leave with a written plan and a number. Most people go home and think about it, which is what I would do.
Are payment plans available?
Yes, through Affirm and Cherry, subject to approval. There is more on the payment plans page.
“Jaime has been my favorite and most accurate injector since I found her almost a decade ago! She has magic hands and a perfect sense of how to give me my best look! Look no more for perfection ! Jaime is it! Full stop!!”
This one starts with an assessment.
45 minutes, $100, booked and paid in advance. You get a written plan and the whole figure for it, and a fair share of these end with me recommending less than you came in for, or nothing yet.
This is only for loose skin and device work. Wrinkle relaxers, filler and facials carry no consultation charge, and those you book directly. Clinical photographs of device results are on the results page.
